Data Discovery - Files Table - File Edits
The “Suggest Edits” popup box has been modified to require the user to select if the edit is applied to just the selected file or all files with duplicate data in the NDR.
This new choice allows the user to apply an edit to only the selected file and not the data duplicates of the file. A data duplicate file is one where the entire contents of the file is identical to the entire contents of the other file, it does not need to have the same filename.
To submit this edit to the file in this project only, select "Single". To also apply this edit to any data duplicates of this file in other projects, select "Multiple" instead. The definitions of “Single” and “Multiple” are:
Single - This edit only applies to the file in this project. Therefore, the file can have different Classification Tags (CTAGs) in different projects.
Multiple - This edit will be applied to any projects containing data duplicates of this file. All data duplicates of this file will then have the same Classification Tags (CTAGs).
The “Multiple” or “Single” edit option is selected with the “Multiple” and “Single” radio buttons at the bottom of the edits window, just above the comments textbox, as seen in the figure below.
Edits are only applied at the end of each day to allow for users to effectively undo edits before they are applied.
“Select Edits” window showing the new “Single” or “Multiple” radio buttons
This new option allows various edit usage scenarios, a couple of examples are detailed below:
- The same Source signature file has been uploaded to multiple projects with a comment of “4*40 Cu inches capacity”, but the comment should have been “3*40 Cu inches capacity”, so the description is edited to reflect this and the “Multiple” files option is selected. The description is updated on all data duplicate files in the multiple projects, without any more user effort.
- A core analysis report is performed on core from a main bore and 3 side track wells which were drilled years apart and are in four different NDR projects, only core photos from the side tracks are included in the report.
- When the report was uploaded to the main bore it had CTAG “CORE_PERM” applied.
- When the report was uploaded to the sidetrack bore 1 it had CTAG “CORE_PERM” applied.
- When the report was uploaded to the sidetrack bore 2 it had CTAG “CORE_PERM” applied.
- When the report was uploaded to the sidetrack bore 3 it had CTAG “CORE_PERM” applied.
- A user notices that the “CORE_PHOTO” is not applied to the files in the three side tracks and selects projects for side track 1, 2 and 3 in the Project Table and adds all the files for all three projects to the Files table.
- The user selects the file from side track 1 project in the Files Table and makes the CTAG edit for it. The user can choose to apply the edits to “Multiple” or “Single” - The user chooses “Single”. The CTAG edit is applied to the file in sidetrack 1 project only.
- The user now selects the file from project side track 2 in the Files Table and makes the CTAG edit for it again choosing “Single”
- The user now selects the file from project side track 3 in the Files Table and makes the CTAG edit for it again choosing “Single”
The user now has different CTAGs in the three side track projects to the main well bore project.
The CTAGs now have a short description of what they are and are organised by process stages. If the CTAGs are required to be in alphabetical order then there is now a green “Sort CTags A->Z” button to the right on the CTAG selection box.

Legacy TAR files that have a .nav file extension are not available to preview. They have an incorrect file extension and were tagged as navigation. They are now tagged as TAR format and are not available for preview as they could cause users web browsers to run out of memory. The files can still be downloaded.
Data Submission - P286 Navigation file admission
UKOOA P2/86 format navigation files are now an accepted file type in the web upload interface. As P2/86 was originally only a tape-based format , the files can be either blocked or unblocked with 80-character records, but must be converted from EBCDIC to ASCII characters.
